What the web can do for a medical practice

It is so satisfying when my physician coaching clients get it! When they understand the power of the Internet to help position them as knowledgeable, useful, approachable experts.
I bet most doctors disregard the Internet as "not for me" because they deem it only helpful for businesses that need to find customers all over the country, or sell stuff to people nationwide.
Well they are wrong!
I just got off the phone with a physician client who's figured out how to leverage the Internet.
His prospective patients read his educational patient-oriented blog posts, respond to his very targeted Google Ads, and find him in the search engines when they enter his specialty and his home town and click "Search". He shows up at the top of the list.
He has:
- an informative website
- a couple of blogs, one written expressly for patients
- a new presence on Twitter
- a profile on LinkedIn
- a brand new newsletter going out to his patients, with the goal of collecting emails so that he can convert to an electronic newsletter in time
- several carefully selected Google Adwords, using his top keywords.
And guess what. He is busy, and getting busier all the time. And he is that much closer to his goal of being a "slightly famous" expert in a subspecialty that is both well-reimbursed and paid for with "cash only".
What are your plans to emulate him?
