Can you boost your medical practice income with in-house services?

3-13-08extrapracticeincome.jpgTimes are tough for practicing physicians as practice revenues get hit year after year by reimbursement reductions. So what is a struggling doc to do?

Medical Economics ran a series of articles on procedures and programs, that, when selected and used appropriately, may generate extra dollars for your practice. I've added some thoughts to the list, in parenthesis, as well, and you'll find the article details by going to the original article

  • Ambulatory blood pressure monitoring
  • Audiology services
  • Laser hair removal
  • Bone density testing
  • Nutritional counseling (and weight management programs)
  • Botox injections (and medical "spa" services)
  • Physical therapy
  • Clinical trials (and other remunerative ways to work with Pharma - watch the Classes calendar for an upcoming teleclass on how to do that)
  • Radiology services
  • Counseling services
  • Spirometry
  • Dispensing drugs
  • Tobacco cessation (and other behavioral modification programs)
  • Flexible sigmoidoscopy
  • Waived lab services
  • Holter monitoring

Sure beats pushing some hyped-up vitamins or expensive sunscreens on patients!

(Thanks to Jose DeJesus MD for bringing this series to my attention)
