Hey physicians, what do YOU think?

I have not gotten involved in the healthcare policy debate, preferring to leave that to the real smart wonks and instead, stay focused in my area of expertise - helping physicians become smart, savvy, happy business people in whatever capacity.

Maybe that is the wrong approach.

I don't believe any of us with medical training, aspirations for a better healthcare system, and desires for a more workable quality of life as a physician can afford to sit on the sidelines and not take an interest.

So from time to time, I will present to you some of the ideas out there and hope to foster a conversation about our futures as practicing or non-practicing contributing docs.

Here is the first post - an opinion piece from Health Care Policy and Marketplace Review (A Health Care Blog by Bob Laszewski).

And here is a raging debate on the Wall Street Journal health Blog about "Where should all the money for primary care come from?"

I am a doctor currently working on an MPH in Health Policy. It's very interesting to be involved in the discussions and battles about the direction in which healthcare should go. Unfortunately, I'm also finding that health policy may not be right for me as well. It's all the legal reading (even though I wish I hadn't become a doctor, I'm even more glad I didn't go to law school - how BORING!). It's environmental and occupational health that's really peaking my interest and if I've learned one thing, you have to think about what you really want and like and go in that direction. Anything else will prove to be a big mistake.
