A big perk of the job as a physician business coach...
Tuesday, December 29, 2009 at 07:11AM ... is whom I get to meet in the course of my work.
Over a year ago, as a keynote speaker at the SEAK Non-Clinical Careers Conference, I had the good fortune to meet family physician, author and speaker Dr Julia Pewitt Kinder. While she was a delightful person to chat to, I was even more struck by the passion and sense of mission that fired up her days.
Julia is Ella's mom.
And Ella was born with Down Syndrome.
We stayed in touch after the conference through LinkedIn and I received a message from Julia yesterday.
In an elegant and touching short essay titled "Mulch", that is now a chapter in a new book on Down Syndrome, she provides her testament to the growth-producing life lessons that her child, as do I imagine many children of different stripes, offers anyone willing to remain curious and set aside their preconceived ideas.
Read it - you will find it a life-affirming gem!
